밪침 is simply a consonant on the bottom.

there are 7 types of 받침s.

ㄱ, ㄳ, ㄲ, ㄺ, ㅋ → [ㄱ]
ㄴ, ㄵ → [ㄴ]
ㄷ, ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅌ → [ㄷ]
ㄹ, ㄼ, ㄽ, ㄾ → [ㄹ]
ㅁ, ㄻ → [ㅁ]
ㄿ, ㅂ, ㅄ, ㅍ → [ㅂ]
ㅇ → [ㅇ]

ㄷ 받침 which covers ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅌ

낮, 낟, 낱, 낯, 났 and 낫 are all pronounced the same no matter where they occur

'ㄷ' 소리로 나는 받침 중에서 'ㄷ'으로 적을 근거가 없는 것은 'ㅅ'으로 적는다.

among those 밪침's which end with the 't' sound, those 'with no reason to be written as such' are written as ㅅ

these are some examples given there:

덧저고리 돗자리 엇셈 웃어른 핫옷 무릇 사뭇
얼핏 자칫하면 뭇(衆) 옛 첫 헛
'ㄷ' 소리로 나는 받침이란, 음절 끝소리로 발음될 때 [ㄷ]으로 실현되는 'ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅌ' 등을 말한다.

what we mean when we say ㄷ 밪침 is that when we pronounce the ㄷ ending, it in reality becomes ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅌ.

이 받침들은, 뒤에 형식 형태소의 모음이 결합될 경우에는 제 소리값대로 뒤 음절 첫소리로 내리 이어져 발음되지만, 단어의 끝이나 자음 앞에서는----음절 말음으로 실현될 때는 모두 [ㄷ]으로 발음된다.[/quote]

In these types of 받침, when the consonants are combined, the sound from the second consonant (the first one on the second character) becomes the pronunciation of the last consonant on the first glyph. However, if it begins with a vowel instead, the ㄷ does not change.

'ㄷ'으로 적을 근거가 없는 것이란, 그 형태소가 'ㄷ' 받침을 가지지 않는 것을 말한다. 예컨대 '걷-잡다(거두어 붙잡다), 곧-장(똑바로 곧게), 낟-가리(낟알이 붙은 곡식을 쌓은 더미), 돋-보다(←도두 보다)' 등은 본디 'ㄷ' 받침을 가지고 있는 것으로 분석되고, '반짇-고리, 사흗-날, 숟-가락' 등은 'ㄹ' 받침이 'ㄷ'으로 바뀐 것으로 설명될 수 있다. 이런 경우는 'ㄷ'으로 적을 근거가 있는 것이지만,
갓-스물 걸핏-하면 그-까짓 기껏 놋-그릇
덧-셈 빗장 삿대 숫-접다 자칫
짓-밟다 풋-고추 햇-곡식

따위는 'ㄷ'으로 적을 근거가 없는 것이다.

Furthermore, some of these ㅅ 받침 must be written as ㄷ 받침 because they must keep their pronunciation.
These are commonly the verb forms.
