In general, you must remember that passive verbs (집히다, to be caught) do not take direct objects they take a X이 thingie. Instead, the object is denoted by 에게 or 에 .
As stated before, the passive verbs are also intransitive, unlike English, which allows intransitive verbs.
English: The paper was thrown to her by him.
Korean: 그 종이가 그에 의해 그녀에게 던져졌어요.
이러면 마음이 흔들리고, 자신이 하고있던 수행방법을 바꿔버려요.
is this sentence correct translation of Was that guy caught by the police?:
경찰이 그 나쁜 놈을 잡혔어요?
No! the original direct object becomes X이 and the original subject becomes Y에게
the correct expression in
그 나쁜 놈이 경찰에게 잡혔나요?
?
And,here is an example where 에 is used to denote the object
어둠에 덮인 앞쪽
