this topic will cover the negation of verbs.

don't ... am not ~~~ing using 지/치 않다
I will cover 3 ways to negate the verb. These first ones which use 지 않다 (with or without 못 or a 치) are simple lexical negation, without added side-meanings.
In the picture below, the top part reads:
게임 : a game ( the water pistol fight)
킅나다: to end
킅나지 않다 : to not end, to never end
yes, it's a water pistol fight.
When ~하지(adverb) is reduce, ~하지 change ~지 or ~치, depending on the consonant which precedes it.

변변하지 않다 .............to be homely, unattractive
1. 안울림소리( 무성음, voiceless sound, 無聲音)받침+하지--->지
ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅅ etc... +하지 change 지
2. 울림소리(유성음, voiced sound, 有聲音)받침+하지--->치
모음, ㄴ, ㄹ, ㅁ, ㅇ+하지 change 치
치 않다
Often the stem -하-, when part of a derived verb, is realized simply as aspiration on the following consonant, so -하지 becomes -치 e.g., 심상하지 않다 -> 심상치 않다)
'석연치 않은'에서 '석연'은 '석연하다'의 어근(뜻이 있어 중심이 되는 부분)입니다. '석연치 않은'은 '석연하지 않은'이 줄어든 말이기에 뜻을 찾을 때 어려움이 있었을 것입니다.

the contraction form . The following are the same:
what happens is that 하지 않 becomes simply 치 . If it's not a 하지 then it stays like a 지 (no line on top).
변변하지 않다 and 변변찮다
적지 않은 and 적잖은
그렇지 않은 and 그렇잖은
남부럽지 않은 and 남부럽잖다
흔치 않다 ... not commonly seen
예)1. 익숙하다(a fundamental form,verb);익숙하지(adverb)--->익숙지
2. 깨끗하다; 깨끗하지--->깨끗지
3. 섭섭하다;섭섭하지--->섭섭지
1. 나는 인터넷에 익숙하다.
나는 인터넷에 익숙하지 않다.
나는 인터넷에 익숙지 않다.
2. 거리가 깨끗하다.
거리가 깨끗하지 않다.
거리가 깨끗지 않다.
3. 그 남자가 내 마음을 알아주지 않아서 섭섭하다.
그 남자가 내 마음을 알아주지 않아도 섭섭하지 않다.

예)1. 간편하다(a funamental form,verb);간편하지(adverb)--->간편치
2. 청결하다;청결하지--->청결치

This example is ㅁ+지, because a fundamental form is 다듬다, 서슴다,
NOT 다듬하다, 서슴하다.
예)1. 이 물건은 아직 다듬지 않았다.
2. 그 사람은 그런 짓을 서슴지 않고 한다.

They often toss in a 못 in there for no reason, but it's very common. There are a few varieties of the simple form of 지 못않다 which negates a verb:
"아직 그런 말에 익숙하지 못해서..."(O) use rate 80%
"아직 그런 말에 익숙지 못해서..."(O) use rate 50%
"아직 그런 말에 익숙지를 못해서..."(O) use rate 20%
simply cannot
- 못 + verbIt's not possible to do the verb's action (compare to 안 + VERB above)
미국산 쇠고기 알고는 못 먹는다
If you know about American beef, you can't eat it
