this topic will cover the negation of verbs.
To see 아니다 please go to about the 6th section on the verb to be.

don"t ... am not ~~~ing using 지/치 않다

I will cover 3 ways to negate the verb. These first ones which use VERB STEM + 지 않다 (with or without 못 or a 치) are simple lexical negation, without added side-meanings.

the verb stem ( the verb minus the 다 (that"s DAH) ending.) is replaced with 지 하다 to make this negative form

그렇다

그렇지 않다 that"s not the case
적다

적지 않은 ........... not a few
만만하다

만만하지 않다 .......... to not be a few
변변하다

변변하지 않다 .............to be homely, unattractive

Here is another example in the form of a picture:

In the picture above, the caption reads:
게임 : a game ( the water pistol fight)
킅나다: to end
킅나지 않다 : to not end, to never end
yes, it"s a water pistol fight.

하지 can be reduced, which is really an advanced topic, so this was moved to a new topic.

don"t ... am not ~~~ing using 지/치 못 않다

They often toss in a 못 in there for no reason, but it"s very common. There are a few varieties of the simple form of 지 못않다 which negates a verb:

""아직 그런 말에 익숙하지 못해서...""(O) use rate 80%
""아직 그런 말에 익숙지 못해서...""(O) use rate 50%
""아직 그런 말에 익숙지를 못해서...""(O) use rate 20%

VST + 치 못 하다
VST + 지 못하다

don"t want to
- 안 + verb
  
  나는 안 가요. I am not going, (because I choose not to )

simply cannot

못 + verbIt"s not possible to do the verb"s action (compare to 안 + VERB above)

미국산 쇠고기 알고는 못 먹는다
If you know about American beef, you can"t eat it

Let"s not .... Hey! don"t do ~~ !

지 말다
This is the negative propositive form.

하지 마세요 Don"t do it (polite)
하지 마 Don"t do it (informal)
하지 말아라 Don"t do it
하지 맙시다 Let"s not do it (polite)
하지 말자 Let"s not do it

quiz: the opposite of 알다 to know is ......

모르다
정이 모르다 ... to have not/ to know not compassion.
인생 ... life
so we just combine them, turning 모르다 into the adjective preceding the noun by using 모르다 + 은....
and we get
정이 모르는 인생.
a life which knows no compassion
This is a violent place.
this is a place which knows no compassion.
