2. Subject + action verb

This example of Korean sentence structure is for the simplest sentences, which are simply a subject and a verb.

For example, tirst let"s look at word order for an English sentence.

He is digging
He is walking.

note that the present progressive tense in English (is + v + ing) is 고 있다 in Korean.

You will need to understand these definitions :

The order of an english sentence is SUBJECT + VERB . For example, ""I am digging"" is
SUBJECT: I
VERB: am digging

The order of a Korean sentence is the same.

He is digging

그난 파고 있어요.
He is going.

그는 가고 있어요.

the verbs used here are 팔다 (dig) ... sorry, it"s irregular as you see it is not 팔고 but instead 파고 . the second verb is 가다 which means to go.

You can review many common verbs in the common words list here

It is different from English, however, because Korean often omits the subject, similar to what happens in Japanese. So it is possible to simply say ""why late?"" (왜 늦었어?) instead of ""why are you late?""

Tenses

The main post is all in the present continous tense. Luke provides 3 examples in the simple present tense:

* 주영은 달린다 = Ju-young runs [written form]
* 주영은 달려요 = Ju-young runs [formal spoken form]
* 주영은 힘차게 달린다 = Ju-young vigorously runs

The adverb comes before the verb.

주영 = Ju-Young (a male name)
달린다 = run
달려 = run (spoken form)
달려요 = run (formal spoken form)
힘차게 = vigorously
