This is a continuation, in way of an example, of how Korean sentences are backwards. This type of sentence occurs so often that I"ve declared it a common sentence pattern.

The whole structure is: OBJECT + VERB + CONJUCTIVE ENDING (은/을/던) + SOME SPECIAL PREDICATE ADJECTIVE NOUN + 이다.

Here we have the noun coming at the very end of the sentence. The relative clause precedes the noun.

It is the case that .... + relative _ clause
In English becomes
relative _ clause + is the case

The modifying verb which makes up the relative clause is followed by the modifying grammar connective pattern 은/을/던 (... ) followed by what in English is called the predicate adjective.

relative _ clause + 은/을/던 + noun + 이다

It is common because as I"ve said before, Korean is a noun-based language ; the first part of this construction is just a noun phrase, really, followed by 이다 which means it is the case that.

To understand this, make sure you first have an idea about how to put adjectives in front of nouns and how to add the adjective endings 은/는/던 to them.

1. For the first example, look at 르 바 but we"ll just leave the examples in the conversational grammar section, so please click that link for those.

2. And, how about 마당에 ??

3. And, another one here is 을 터이다 which may do more than just function as a NOUN, and may in fact add a slight beacuse meaning to the sentence, nevertheles, you can click the link above to read those examples.

4. also, 모양 is often used in this manner.
It means situation in the general sense of the word.

그때그때마다 신문에 났던 모양이었다.
오래 전부터 다솔사에 있었던 모양이었다.
was here a long time ago

안정을 찾은 모양이었습니다. he found peace

5. is a fairly common word too.

시험 공부를 셈이었다.
그이도 그만하면 대가를 치른 아닌가요?

6. 말이다
네가 빗자루를 가진 걸 보면 모두들 갖고 싶어할 티니 말이다.

최양일 감독의 '피와 뼈'는 꼭 극장에서 보고싶은 작품이었다.

the movie "blood and bones" by the director Choi Yang Il is a piece I definetely want to see in the theater (극장).
